Recommended by friends; surprised we had not discovered earlier since it's only a couple blocks from home, but it's kind of a hidden gem! We had peeked into the garden area from the opposite side of the main entrance before, but never knew what the inside was like. They have a darling patio area - very quaint! Our friends recommended the "cheese wheel", apparently a fare for which Das Eisenherz is known; involves a huge wheel of Parmesan cheese with alcohol added and then ignited. While the cheese is melting an attendant scrapes the melted cheese into large crumbles which is then transferred into a huge (share worthy) bowl, and then two different types of pasta are added. The bowl is large enough to keep the two types separate. You have the option to add a side of chicken, shrimp, meat. With or without the added side, the pasta is great and the presentation is even better. I'm not sure what else they had on the menu since this was recommended and a favorite of the other couples. I hate to sound like this is a primary concern of mine (since I tend to mention it frequently), but I was VERY impressed by their VERY complete bar!! I tried a couple drink specialties that I can't say I would order again, but with a bar that complete, it's easy to stick to the tried and true drinks with which you're already familiar!
I also loved the inside. Although we opted for outside dining (the preferred method of dining in 2020), I am hoping that by winter all is good so we can enjoy this cozy close-to-home setting during the cold months. Rumor has it that they occasionally also offer live music! Overall, we were very impressed and happy to learn of this place! Great Service too! I don't know if all the staff speaks English, but our waiter was very fluent in English as was the bartender! (Bartender spoke English so well, he might have been American!)

They are inside the City Center in Amberg (Spitalgraben 15) very near Georgenstrasse.
Inside and outside are not huge; I definitely recommend making reservations, which are easy to do on their Facebook page (link above). They reply immediately! Or you can call them at 49 9621 6978990
Many thanks to our friends who recommended Das Eisenherz, AND the Cheese Wheel!
